Your hands grip tightly at the armrests on each side of you as a you are snatched
away from a restless sleep. The horrible screeching of metal on metal makes your
heart race and your blood run cold. A baby screams, and you glance around at the
other passengers, wondering if it's just your paranoia blinding you to rational
thinking. Someone catches your eye, but you don't look away. The two of you find
comfort in the fact that you are both frightened and seemingly everyone else
around you is, as well. You manage a smile when nothing else out of the ordinary
seems to happen. Just as you let yourself settle back into your chair, a roaring
explosion knocks you back against the headrest and blows out your eardrums.
Plastic windows shatter, the crunching sound of steel and bone is terrifying,
and as the luggage starts to cascade perilously through the narrow corridor, you
open your eyes just in time to see the nose of your plane diving towards the
ambiguous shapes of a lush jungle. All that flashes through your mind is wild
fear beyond anything you've ever felt, and the one premonition you've dreaded
since birth: your inescapable death.
It's hard to imagine, but soon you
will wake up among the debris and the scattered bodies and realize that escaping
death this day may not have been such a blessing after all. Because now, you are
stranded, and the test of survival is not over yet. Oh no, my friend, this has
only just begun!
